Using the Quickbooks Service
The ASAP Quickbooks hosting service leverages the Remote Desktop® technology created by Microsoft® for use with their advanced operating systems, such as Windows 2000, 2003, and Windows XP. ASAP operates a highly available cluster of Quickbooks servers, which provide a secure working environment for your accounting and bookkeeping team.
If you are running Windows and would like to download and install the latest Remote Desktop Client, please download from here:
The ideal method to access the Quickbooks hosting service is by downloading and installing Microsoft's Remote Desktop client. This can be obtained by downloading this file, and if you have a Macintosh it can be obtained by downloading and installing this file (OSX clients only). Older versions of Macintosh will have to use another client, such as the Java Client that ASAP can provide.
Once you have installed the software, you can launch the application. On PC's, the application will be available in your start menu. Click Start, then Programs, then Accessories, and then Communications. Click on the shortcut icon for Remote Desktop Connection. When the application opens up on your system, you will see a prompt for Computer:. In the space provided, type qb.businessasap.com and click on the connect button. Once the system has made its connection to the Quickbooks server, enter your username and password into the spaces provided.
If you are not at your own computer and don't want to perform a full software installation but you do need access to your quickbooks, you can access a web-based version of the Remote Desktop software which will work for users who have Internet Explorer loaded on a PC. The page which contains the web-based version of the Remote Desktop software is at this link. (A more generic version that can connect to any Terminal Server can be found on this page.)
There is an open source version of the Remote Desktop client available to those who are running Linux and other variants of Unix. It is called rdesktop and is downloadable from www.rdesktop.org. ASAP does not support this application, but it has been tested on various platforms and is sufficient to make a connection.
